As part of our work to engage and inform our families and community members, Spring Lake will join all school districts across Pekin for an upcoming community information night.

On Tuesday, November 3, 2026, all voters in Tazewell County will consider a 1% Illinois County Schools Facility Tax, also known as a one-cent tax, that would impact every school district in the county. This one-cent tax would fund critical improvements to school facilities, creating safer, modern learning environments, while lessening the burden on homeowners by offering an alternative funding source for local schools.

This question impacts all students in Pekin schools, from elementary through high school. That is why all Pekin district residents are invited to join us for a presentation and Q&A with Pekin Community High School District 303, North Pekin-Marquette Heights District 102, South Pekin School District 137, Pekin 108, and our district.

Date: Thursday, September 24, 2026
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Pekin Community High School Theater, 320 Stadium Drive, Pekin, IL 61554

Local school leaders will answer questions from community members, as well as share a presentation about how this sales tax operates, including:
What would be taxed
What would be exempt
What the tax can be used for, by law
How non-residents would contribute significantly to this tax
How revenue is distributed and controlled locally

Our students participated in a bus evacuation drill and learned important skills to help keep them safe. They practiced what to do in an emergency and how to quickly and safely exit the bus. A huge thank you to Ms. Kathy for always going above and beyond and for making student safety a top priority! We appreciate all that you do!

🚨📞 Life Skill of the Week: Know How and When to Call 9-1-1! 📞🚨 Our first graders have been learning all about emergencies, first responders, and who answers when we call 9-1-1. Today, we were lucky to have Deputy Hastings visit our classroom to reinforce these important lessons! Thank you, Deputy Hastings, for taking the time to talk with us, answer our questions, and read to us! We loved having you visit!

Today, our students learned about Patriots Day and took time to remember the heroes who showed incredible courage, compassion, and selflessness during September 11, 2001. Through age-appropriate discussions and activities, students learned about the importance of remembering history, honoring those who helped others, and recognizing the many everyday heroes in our communities. We are proud of our students for listening, learning, asking thoughtful questions, and showing respect as we remembered the heroes of that day. 🇺🇸

A Note from the Principal: Sharing some information about an upcoming referendum that will be on the county-wide ballot this November 3, 2026. Spring Lake #606, along with all school districts across Tazewell County, is asking voters to consider a 1% Illinois County Schools Facility Tax (CSFT), also known as the "one-cent tax." This type of request can provide funding for critical school facility repairs/renovations, security and safety measures for students, and reduce reliance on property taxes to fund these projects. This is the same type of sales tax that exists in every county that borders Tazewell, and revenue through these taxes is provided through purchases made by visitors, not solely Tazewell County residents. Nearly 60% of sales tax collected in Tazewell County comes from residents that do not reside in Tazewell County. Throughout the fall, we will provide additional information and resources for families and residents who may have questions or wish to learn more. In the meantime, we encourage you to visit the referendum website www.tazewellforstudents.com for more details.

Fridays are for getting creative! Our K–2 students have Art Fridays, where they get to explore different materials, techniques, and ways to express their creativity. Today, they used apples to create print art! The students had so much fun turning something as simple as an apple into a unique work of art. 🍏🍎
